Polyisobutylene Succinic Anhydride (Thermal Adduction PIBSA)

Polyisobutylene Succinic Anhydride (Thermal Adduction PIBSA) is a thermal adduct of polyisobutylene and succinic anhydride. It is typically produced through the reaction of polyisobutylene and succinic anhydride in the presence of a catalyst such as zinc, lead, magnesium, calcium or cobalt salts. PIBSA is used as a component in a variety of adhesives, coatings and sealants, due to its excellent water and oil resistance, strength and flexibility. PIBSA is also used in the formulation of elastomers, gels, and adhesives. Additionally, PIBSA has been used in the manufacture of lubricant additives, corrosion inhibitors and industrial soaps, as well as in the formulation of surface-active agents.
