Flotation reagents are chemical agents used in the froth flotation process to separate valuable minerals from gangue in ore beneficiation. By selectively modifying the surface properties of mineral particles, flotation reagents enable efficient recovery of copper, lead, zinc, gold, silver and other non-ferrous metal ores, as well as rare earth minerals. Shanghai Minglan Chemical Co., Ltd. is a professional manufacturer of high-quality flotation reagents, delivering reliable performance, stable quality and technical support for mineral processing plants worldwide.
Function of Flotation Reagents in Mineral Processing
- Collectors: Adsorb onto mineral surfaces to make them hydrophobic, allowing valuable minerals to attach to air bubbles and rise to the froth layer. Our range covers xanthates (SIBX, SEX, SIAX), dithiophosphates (IBS, BS, BA, Dithiophosphate 25/36) and thionocarbamates.
- Frothers: Stabilize the air-water interface to create a persistent but manageable froth that carries mineral-laden bubbles. Our range includes 2# Frother and MIBC.
- Regulators and Depressants: Control pulp chemistry, adjust pH and selectively depress unwanted minerals. Our range includes copper sulfate, zinc sulfate, sodium sulfide, sodium hydrosulfide, sodium sulfite and sodium metabisulfite.

Benefits of High-Quality Flotation Reagents
- Higher Recovery Rate: Strong collecting power improves valuable mineral recovery and reduces metal loss to tailings.
- Better Selectivity: Precise reagent chemistry improves concentrate grade by separating target minerals from gangue more effectively.
- Process Stability: Consistent product quality and chemical stability ensure smooth, repeatable flotation circuit performance.
- Lower Operating Cost: Efficient reagent dosage reduces overall reagent consumption and processing cost per tonne of ore.
- Technical Support: Our team provides application guidance and custom formulation to match specific ore types and circuit conditions.
Applications by Ore Type
Copper Ores
Purpose: Collectors such as sodium butyl xanthate, dithiophosphates and thionocarbamates are used to float chalcopyrite, bornite and other copper sulfide minerals.
Benefits: Improved copper recovery and concentrate grade, effective in both alkaline and neutral circuits.

Lead-Zinc Ores
Purpose: Selective collectors including Dithiophosphate 36 and sodium ethyl xanthate enable differential flotation of lead and zinc minerals in complex ores.
Benefits: Cleaner lead-zinc separation, higher concentrate purity and reduced reagent consumption.

Gold and Silver Ores
Purpose: Dithiophosphate collectors (IBS, BS, BA) and frothers are used for gold and silver bearing sulfide ores, including auriferous pyrite.
Benefits: Enhanced precious metal recovery and effective performance in alkaline circuits.

Rare Earth and Other Minerals
Purpose: Frothers such as 2# Frother and MIBC, together with regulators, support the flotation of rare earth minerals, talc, graphite, sulfur and coal.
Benefits: Broad applicability across metallic and non-metallic mineral processing flowsheets.
